Carb cleaning cost?

I know nothing about carbs. I have a 1979 kz 650 sr. I am being told I need my carbs cleaned. My bike hesitates and I have to work the throttle when I take off from a stop to get the rpms up so I can take off. Once I get moving she runs fine. I notice no sluggishness or hesitation once I am moving. Does anyone know what a good cleaning would or should cost and is this what I really need?

Pilot circuits could use a good diy cleaning.

Would also assure correct ignition timing and properly functioning advancer.

And how long since valve clearances were checked?

Good Fortune! :)

Try some seafoam. It can't hurt.

I just went through a two cylinder set of carbs and I just charged 50 bucks. To have a pro do them it will probably cost 200-300 dollars.

I'm cheap but I ain't free. Roy

Once upon a time I left my carbs with a "professional". It was a complete and total waste of $250. I ended up figuring how to do them myself eventually

I would trust Roy. I read his posts and he knows what he's doing. And he's an honest man.

I went to Pepboys today and bought some seafoam as you suggested. Put 6 ounces in the full tank of gas and let it idle for a while as I did some stuff in the house. When I went back out and took off I didn't notice any hesitation at all. Rode for about 2 1/2 hours with virtually no sign of the issues I was having last night. Could it have been that simple? Or am I missing something?

That seafoam is good stuff.

When I work on someones bike I first add seafoam and make sure it is in the carbs.

It will break down varnish real quick.

When I remove carb parts I put them in a mixture of gas and seafoam while I am cleaning the carb bodies.

Works for me. Roy

well, I may have jumped the gun. I took the old girl out today for another ride and ended up seeing the same symptoms. I will run out this tank and try again. Eventually it may work itself out. If I put a whole can in won't that be too strong?
