u have vm33's and rs34's right? i would keep at the tuning on the 34's.
i also have had booth of these on my 1200cc motor and my 1327. the performance is very similar, but the 34's will allow u to sync the carbs, as they have vacuum spigots.
in the end the rs is a better carb with potential for a better vacuum signal in the lower rpm's due to the flat slide. that is why the changed the slide shape, for better low end response.
What is the problem u are experiencing now, and why did u abandon the vm33’s?

I had my vm33's on my bike for 20 years over several engine set ups and never had to touch them except for main jets and air screw adjustments. When I recently rebuilt my bike I wanted bigger carbs so I went for the flatslides. I just can't stand the sound they make, the rattling or clacking or whatever you want to call it. I would slap my old 33's right back on there except I sold them before trying the 34's :pinch: So if I want carbs bigger than 33 but with a round slide (and no clacking) I need to get the CR Specials. The set I bought turned out to be 33's but I was hoping they were 35's. Anyway, I have another set of VM33's that I'm going through now and setting up exactly like my old ones. I want to try those out and see what happens. I just figure if I'm going to go with round slide 33's I might as well use the Mikuni's since I'm much more familiar with them and have tuning parts and literature.

what size baffle do u have in your header. i have a 2" and no clacking from my rs34"s.
how did u like the rs34's , other than the clack? were u happy with the jetting and performance?
did u find the low rpm wot bog to be better than the vm33's?
i find my rs's to be a little better than my vm33's.
i had to run the 33's rich to help with the bog.
i have been wondering, lately, if i was to use smaller air jets if it would help like it helped with the vm's.
i think the 33's would perform better than the 35's. the 35's might work better up top, but u may be right back to bog city at the bottom.
i think the next carb i try would be fcr's they may have better low end responce, and they even have rollers on the slides so they dont clack.

They measure 35mm I.D. at the tip of the intake spigot - right where they clamp to the rubber manifold on the head. Here's the problem - when you unscrew that spigot, the other end measures 33mm I.D. and matches the carb throat, just inside of the threads. Mikuni's don't have removeable spigots like that so I'm not sure what's what. I think I have 33's or 35's. Each carb has a "33" ink stamped on them but I'm not sure if that's the size or not.

They're 33's and if they are CRS, they are really good carbs for 1197 2valve kawasakis.

What size motor are you putting them on?

If you want to sell them, post up some pics and give me a price :)

Hi Larry, he has a 1260 cc.B)
how are those vm33's working for you? are u satisfied with the performance? do u thing they are still a little on the large side on a 1200cc, for low end responce?

you can make 29s work on an 1197 also, just depends on what youre after i guess.if youve got enough open road to let her stretch her legs id say go with the 33s.

I'm running the V&H with the competition baffle (1.75" I think?) and drilled some extra holes too. Do you think more or less back pressure would lessen the clacking?

The 34's seem to run about the same as the 33's to me. They both have the low end bog at wot and that part seem about the same. I could probably lean out the 34's a little more but didn't want to push it too hard being an all new engine. Those Keihin flatslides look awesome - the rollers are probably the ticket! I've never seen a used set of those except a set of 41's. Very pricey carbs.

how often are you actually gonna pin the throttle where youll get full affect of a set of 34s versus the smaller carbs? B)

Only when I ride... No, I know what you mean. I guess if I was drag racing again a bigger set would be nice but as long as the smaller carbs run well I'll probably be fine with the 33's. I ordered a few parts to get them ready to run and I'll try them out soon.

Yea, I'd say he's a little better than me too...certainly a lot lighter!

I had a set of 29's that I sold a few years back for like $400. Sure wish I had those back! They went to someone in Germany.

Just a thought. if u are the type that likes to tinker, i would hang onto the rs34's for a while. find a 2"baffle and try the rs34's again. i have almost the exact same motor as u, except only 1200cc's, and before this i had 1327cc's. i can only hear the odd clack at idle.
i found a straight piece of 2" baffle in a bike store. it is for a V twin pipe ($20).i just had it welded to my kerker end cap , after opening the end hole up.
i cant say if it is the bigger baffle that makes them quiet, but mine are.
just another option. i like the fact that the rs34's have a fuel pump, and are syncable.
but if i ever come across some 34mm fcr's for a good deal, i'll give them a try, just to see what there like. i would never go bigger than 34's on a street motor, to much bottom end loss and bog.
I hit wot every time i ride. but sometimes i do wish i had more bottom end, but at the loss of top end? tuff call, i wish i had both.. B)
