I have the BS 34s on my bike (82 CSR) and other than a good cleaning,replacing the float gaskets, seats and needles and using a K and N filter in the stock airbox,mine runs fine.U could do a lot worse and sometimes the more u fiddle,the worse the bike runs.Ask me how I know.Lol.bj

If it aint broke... :laugh:

i agree with Otakar completely... with them correctly tuned, my bs34 carbs have outperformed my vm28's in every way imaginable.

It just has a 4-1 header not sure the make because there's no markings visible.It also needs an ignition switch if anyone knows who has one. It was a friend of mines,and he passed away. I ended up with the bike but his daughter gave me the wrong key.only 10,000 miles

You can get a new ignition lock w/keys @ Z1 Enterprises

Mine pulls and runs like a raped APE. I wouldn't split seconds with them at the drag strip because they are slower to respond but for the street you can't beat them.

Thanks to all of you.I will just stay with the jets that are in there after a thorough cleaning just as a starting point to see which way I need to go.I'm sure they were changed when the 4-1 was added. I will post pics soon although it's really not much eye-candy to look at.

OK this is what you do;
Stock jet size is 122.5 This bike was made for cruising and economy. This means that is already one jet size too lean (125) Header added, increase one jet size (127.5) Stock airbox with K&N aircleaner, add one jet size (130)If you go to Pod Filters you can go up one more jet size (132.5).
Shim up needles about 1-2mm with needle shims. Adjust idle screws with "idle speed method and not with turn count adjustment (I.E. 1 1/4 turns) leave the pilot jets ALONE.

I haven't taken the slides out yet,but I think they are notched if so should I just move them down a notch or will I still need to shim them. Thanks for your time Otto.

They are not notched with the exception of the one notch. You will put the shims under the clip. This will raise the needle for a bit fatter mid range.
