?!?! Which one did you buy? The one for the 82 model or the one for the 81 model. Did you check the diagrams at Kawasaki.com first?I actually bought that one. ...
You probably have to get an airbox that's specific to the 80-81 440-Standard.
(assuming the bike is an 81 440-B2).
Air filter assy: 11010-1072
KZ440-B1 (1980)
KZ440-B2 (1981
Supersession: Air filter assy: 11010-1053
You'll have to do some searching to see what model would have the superceded air filter. I'd guess a KZ400 - just a guess.
(note: Air filter assy = Airbox assy)

Air filter assy: 11010-5042
KZ440-A1 (LTD) (1980)
KZ440-A2 (LTD) (1981)
KZ440-A3 (LTD) (1982)
KZ440-A4 (LTD) (1983)
KZ440-D1 (LTD Belt) (1980)
KZ440-D2 (LTD Belt) (1981)
KZ440-D3 (LTD Belt) (1981)
KZ440-D4 (LTD Belt) (1982)
KZ440-D5 (LTD Belt) (1983)
KZ440-G1 (1982)

Air filter assy: 11010-1066
KZ400-B1 (1978)
KZ400-B2 (1979)
KZ400-C1 (1978)
This airbox assy appears very similar to the 80-81 KZ440-Standard unit. It has the same cap & air filter element. However, the airbox ducts are different, so the airbox holes may not be the same. I have no idea if it'll work on your bike.

The diagrams are readily available at Kawasaki.com....The line drawing that you provided are the best that I've seen....
As mentioned, the airbox duct holes might be of a different size. The only difference that I can see between the '78-'79 box and the '80-'81 B box is the use of an adjustable band on the earlier boots. ....
