I brushed on a layer of form a gasket sealer let it dry then brushed on some black rtv. The gasket sealer should hold up against the gas i am hoping, and the rtv will protect the gasket sealer from water....It seemed to work just fine.

I also tightened up the boots, it runs alot better.
ill gen some new boots with the next check i get.

Although the cracks are eliminated now i have a ticking noise below 3,000 rpm. i dont know what it is, and its very annoying.
the valve clearances are all in spec so that cant be it, i hope its not the cam or crank bearings!!!!!!!!!1

Have you sang the "found the crack" song? This has to be done first. Then measure the length of the pipe.. somtimes a small pipe can get lost. Just dont get stashy after induction, could be years till u find stuff. ANd ohhhhh the blame! Time to apollajize to someone?

When you check the valve clearances, you have to loosen the cam chain tensioner before puttin gth evalve cover back on. If you don't, the chain gets stretched by the valve cover and the guides get worn. There is a warning in most manuals about this.

If the chain is stretched, that could cause some ticking.

Damn, that is the least of my problems now!
on my way home i was crusing down my road and i probibly got er up to 7 grand in 4th... when i pull in my driveway the fucking thing lost all its power and it sounds like its running on 1 cylinder!!!!!!!!

I got it in my shop shut it off and tried to start it again, it barley starts! but once it started it ran like shit.

I checked it for spark and im good there, but i need to do a comprression test. I think its a problem with the carbs. But it just suddenly appeared so i dont know what it could be.

ALSO: when i pulled it in my shop it smelt really rich like gas.

This is my only transportation to college and back and i need it! i dont know what to do

someone please help!

fuel started (pouring) out of both overflow tubes --- would suspect malfunctioning float valves. Is an inline fuel filter being used?

Good Luck! :)

Yep thats what it is for sure, thank god!!!
I drained them and started it back up. they must have got stuck.

Its just wierd more then one would stick at the same time?

I filled up today, maybe i must have got some crap in the fuell or something.

No fuel filter is being used, i have the vaccum fed petcock and the fuel line is straight.

I should probably use one huh? in addition to draining the tank and flushing it of all crap, and maybe cleaning out my petcock.

I think that should help

this site kicks ass, thanks guys!

The petcock has a really fine screen that goes up into the tank. Make sure that is not punctured etc.

If I was to rig my carb boots I would have done the outside of them. That way when hitting 7 grand and she runs like shit you could eliminate the crack killer from killing your engine. That is a dangerous move on your only transportation in my opinion. You might find used boots that are in better condition than yours untill you can get new ones. My .02 cents

I removed my boots today and found that they are all cracking where they meet the head.

One of the boots is cracking around the vacuum nipple, so I'm wondering if that is causing one of my cylinders to run lean. Now I have to decide whether to buy new ones or try to fix these. Did yours look as bad as mine?
