Well, ive been wonderin for a while why my bike idles rough....ive checked the carbs and vaccum hoses for any leaks and found none which is good.

it still ran like it had a vaccum leak, but none turned up. Then today i thought to look at the boots from the head to the carbs.

Sure egnough, there is a crack in cyl #4 boot. I sprayed some carb cleaner on it when it was running and it started choking.

Im glad i found it! ;)

But does anyone have any suggetions on a quick fix until i can score some new boots???

thanks
Luke

I wonder if silicon or that glue they use to fix inner tube patches?Kinda like rubber cement. You need something pliable that can move with the rubber. What Bike do you have?

Gasoline will eat the silicone pretty quickly. Buy the new flanges and be safe and happy.

You think that's pricy? Check the OEM Kawasaki ones. It'll scare you into buying the aftermarket ones.

Hey there,

I also have some cracks in my boots and I plan on using gorilla glue or elmers ultimate glue to bond the inside of the crack together. From there I am simply going to use some plastidip and apply a very thin coat over the crack with a small brush. Many people have used this for diaphragm repair, but I have also heard of it being used for carb boots as well. I am not sure where you are from, in the states you can get plastidip at Napa and Home Depot. In Canada I found some at Home Hardware. You can check their site at plastidip.com. Also for past stories on the use of this stuff check :

www.kawasakimotorcycle.org/forum/vintage...gm-repair-works.html

or this link talks about using it for carb boots:

www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2972

Let me know how you make out. I will be doing mine this weekend!

On a couple of my KZ1000s I have found the cracks to be surface and not breaking all the way through (although they WILL eventually). Most of the leaking came from the bolts loosening up and causing the leaks. So I tightened them down until I picked up new ones.

Real learning begins after you know everything.
