I need to replace my carb holders and boots and I'm thinking of switching to individual pod filters and a stage 3 kit. Anyone here running this kind of setup that can offer any advice?

The reason I want to go this way is I like the look of the pod filters over the stock airbox. I'm not looking to get a performance boost but I don't want to loose any either.

I have a 1980 kz750/4 E1 with Keihin carbs and K&N pod air filters and a 4->1 Mac exhaust. Right now I have the secondary main jets at 140 and the primary main at 70 and it runs well. Stock for the secondayr main is about 125 and for the primary is either 60 or 62.

If like me you have the Keihin CV34s then I hope this helps. If you have Mikuni BS34s then disregard.

Haing said all that, the only reason I have the pods is because thats what was on it when I bought it otherwise I would have left the stock airbox alone. I gues I like the look of stock. To each his own :)

Maybe telefunkin can send you his stock airbox when he's done?

You know the old saying "Don't quit your day job!"? Same good advice is "don't get rid of your airbox!".

Go ahead and go to pods. Some seem to get along well with them but for a good amount of people they wish they never switched or they switch back. If you get rid of or destroy your airbox then good luck finding one. It would be best if you did some research before making such a change because it's not all cut and dried and not everyones experiences are the same.

To check their website just go to their main page and type keihin in the little search box up top.

They may not list them on their website or at least they did'nt when I bought mine but they do or did sell them.

I'd suggest you give them a call or send them an email.

Good luck

I just sprayed my carb holders with carb cleaner and the rpm's went through the roof. leaky leaky, guess I will need more gasket sealer and a putty knife. :woohoo:

Sealer has proven to be a short term solution to a leaking carb holder issue.

Would consider new carb holders:

it would appear that one of the vacuum hoses fell off of the carburetor, and the measurment for the carb is 2 1/4 inches.

motorcycle superstore dot com has the "uni" foam ones that you can wash and oil similar to k&n but cheaper, and they have them in 2 1/4 inch size available.

without using any lifelines, 2.22929936306 inches or 56.624203821724 mm is my final answer, Meredith

considering that I cut the back ens off my stock mufflers I could also send the header pipes to him, all that would need to be done is to weld larger 2-1 y pipes to them and weld that to the stock bell-bottom mufflers with bigger baffles. (granted the equalizer crack pipe needs to be there to join them together)
