Just a quick note to say - wired georges coil rewiring tip - should be mandatory in order to get membership on the site, instant improvement in idle, clean plugs - smooth running and more power - and all for little or no investment and about 2 hours work.should be the starting point for all!

No benefit if you already have good voltage to the coils. prefer less contraptions in the electrical system. I just clean the switches and fix wiring problems.

The relay method is a good shortcut if you don't want to fix the wires, switches, etc.

So I guess I'd have to forfeit my membership, then. :)

All i can say is - it worked wonders for my 78 650. Checked the coil voltage (engine off) before mod - less than 10 volts ( battery is good) - Coil voltage after mod - 11.97.
Idle inmproved and plugs that were previously sooty - now nice light tan colour.Engine is smoother right through the range - i have dyna s ignition and dyna coils/wires - plugs were bad even on this set up untill i wired according to WG's plan.DIfferent Bike.!!!

The Dyna uses so much excess current, the relay will really make a difference on that setup. I prefer the factory electronic ignition since it uses far less current.

I went through the loom from end to end cleaned and tightened every connection - wiring is my stock and trade - 30 year old switchgear on the bars was the root of my issue and cleaning didnt improve.

each to his own !

voltage was checked before and after mod with engine not running - and improvement in voltage noted as in previous post - no load on anything - therefore sdditional load taken by Dyna S - is irrelevant as its only there when running.

All i wanted to point out was - this really worked for me and should be starting point for any one with an older bike - and also to give a little thanks for a genuinely usefull tip - if someone else thinks is pointless thats there opinion.

I havent used this forum much but have only found people on here to be extremely helpfull over all - in fact I've only gotten good advice/help and am gratefull for all of it.

I think i'll leave it there

My bike had 14v at the coils, but I decided to do the mod anyway. Of course there was no difference, but I figure the bike could only benefit in the long run. Even if this mod does fail for some reason, I have all the old wiring in tact, so this mod basically cost me nothing but time (already had the relay and wiring).
