I pulled my carbs to change my pilot jets and look what I found in the bowls! It feels like foam that has degraded and fallen apart. By foam I mean the type of stuff that a pillow or padding is made from, whatever that type is.

Anyway, the only thing I've done any different is add Stabile to the fuel a few months ago. Is it possible this is from the Stabil? It seems to totally disolve when touched, but I don't know, seems pretty weird. The whole bike only has 40 miles on it and these are brand new carbs. I've had them off before for jetting changes and they were clean. Any ideas??

what type of fuel have you been using is it something with a high alcohol content that would be my first guess. we use stabil quite a bit up here and i've never seen anything like this in a carb other than when there has been alcohol in the fuel. especally after such a short time

Spey 'em out with carb cleaner and run fresh gas with Sefoam through them. Things will probably be fine. I don't think it's worth a complete tear down without trying that first.

i cant add insight, but when i first got my bike last summer, i pulled bowl on bottom of factory petcock and it was half-full of something similar
in consistancy, but was white....i was like "wtf is that ?".......carb cleaned it out and wrote it off as one of the mysteries of life like missing dryer socks, big-foot, and why does my wife do shit like that..... maybe wg knows what it is......?....keith

The cause being ethanol crossed my mind after I posted. The fact that it's soft means it should clean up easily with spray cleaner and compressed air.

I stay away from ethanol in my bikes (and I'm a corn farmer).

is your tank sealed?
i had a tank sealer kit leave a similar thing in mine,
either the fuel or a stabilizer a buddy gave me caused a jelly to almost fill my bowls.

Wow, that looks like the stuff. My tank was sealed during the rebuild by "gas tank renu" and seemed to be working well. I first thought of the sealer, but it was OK until this time. Maybe the Stabil reacted with the sealer?? What did you do to correct the problem?

I use 93 octane from BP, I think. Definitely might have some ethanol in it - can't buy it any other way around here during the winter. I'm not sure when I last bought gas but it was probably around Sep or Oct. Not sure if they had the winter mix in the tank yet or not.

i always for the last few years anyway drain the bowls of my carbs when i put the bikes away for winter especally with pump gas the way it is now i leave a full tank init so the tank wont rust but the fuel is so bad nowadays that if you leave it in the carbs for more than a few weeks it will go bad or completly evoporate.

hey mike what kind of fuel filter are you using because if the problem is the liner it should fill the filter easily, id put a fresh filter on it and see if it clogs up right away after you clean out your carbs of course.
