Hey Guys, i cant get my carbs back on cuz the rubber boots are way to stiff, i saw on another forum that this guy used a rubber renewer, but cant find the stuff anywhere, any suggestions?? This would also be good for all the other rubber parts on the bike when i take it apart. Any links or suggestions of things to use would be great!!

Here is the pic of what the guy on the other forum used, cant get ahold of him to find out where he got it.

My gut feeling...sounds like snake oil. I don't know what bike you are working on but if new boots are available, order them. I just removed a set of carbs from a 78 650 on Saturday, the boots were so hard I ended up cutting them off with a hacksaw. Compared to the new soft rubber boots I have is like night and day. I'm as cheap as they come but for $10 a carb it is money well spent. Just my $.02 worth.

How much time do you have? When I am taking a bike apart and I know it will be a while before I reassemble it, I'll take all those rubber bits and drop them in a ziplock bag and liberally apply original 'ArmorAll' and let them soak. The ArmorAll will 'soften' up old rubber (not restore it, but soften it) so you can use it another time or two. However, if you really want to do it 'right' then follow Andy's (The Gringo) advice and replace those boots w/new.

Am guessing NAPA's version of Armoral.

See page 33 of NASA website > BodyPro Rubber Conditioner on page 33

Sometimes heating with a hair dryer temporarily softens the old hardened rubber air intake hoses. Then work fast!

Good Luck! :cheer:

They run about $10 per boot give or take. Check with Jeff at Z-1 Ent. he usually has the best prices and his service is second to none.

There is a liquid called something like "Rubbernue" or similar which does strip off the hardened surface rubber. It was designed for rubber drive belts and idler wheels in audio equipment. I used to take a belt and drop it in the bottle and let it soak, then gently wipe off the belt. It will remove hardened rubber, but nothing on earth will reverse the aging process the rubber has experienced.

I can help you there: soak them in some very hot water for a while and that will soften them up. You can use a small amount of dishwashing liquid to make them slippery on the necessary surfaces.

I like a product called 303 Rubber Protectant. When I pull rubber parts off a bike, I spray them with this stuff and seal them in a zip-loc plastic page. While nothing will repair aging damage, this 303 product helps keep rubber in good shape.

You can usually find this stuff at auto parts store and even Ace hardware.

I'm with Gringo on this one...

Buy new ones for rejuventaor just won't do nor will it provide new like condtion for the intake manifolds to properaly seal for ideal/desired/optimum performance in your vacuum/tuning/operations of your carbs....

@ $10 a peice that's $40 plus shipping so lets say $50...
That's 7-8 fast food lunches any longer... If you're a smoker, that's 7 packs of Marlboro's, if you're into good beer, that's 6-6 packs of Fat tire Beer, if you're into fine wine, that's 3-4 bottles, pending the wine of choice that's not even one bottle of fine wine.....

See the pattern here.... ;)

Your carbs are such an extremely important part of your motors pereformance, don't go cheap here on this one...
