has anyone used the z1 petcock adapter plates on a 650? it says the bolt holes are 44mm apart, and I measured mine and they are 44 apart, so it should work.

just want to see if anyone has used these....

Yup, i have one on my 650b1 and its a perfect fit. If ya get the petcock, you have to enlarge the petcock hole on the bottom just a bit to fit the filter.

ok then thats what I'm gonna do. I bought one of those for my H2 and I like it because it has an OFF position. I hate those vacuum petcocks.

Hey Guys,

Can someone explain to me the difference between the vaccume and the manual petcock?

On my 650 B2 the vaccume hose connects to the carbs, I am assuming that this hose is eliminated when using the manual.

SO - do you need to block off the hole where the old vaccume tube used to go?

ThnX

Vacuum petcock is designed to be always OFF (in either PRI or RES position) until actuated by receiving vacuum from a running engine. Eliminates need to remember physically (manually) turning it OFF when the engine is shut down. Manual petcock has three positions, which are ON, OFF and REServe.

Converting from vacuum to manual eliminates the vacuum hose, at which time the vacuum nipple at the carb should be capped off where the hose previously attached.

FYI -- manual's ON (and RES) are same through fuel flow as vacuum's PRIme.

Good Luck! :)

Like patton said you do block the vacuum line if replacing a vacuum petcock with a manual type. You can either remove the hose from the carbs and plug it at the carbs or simply plug the hose with a bolt or something. Conversely if you feel the need to convert a 1977 manual type petcock with a vacuum one you can simply tie the vacuum line to any of the 4 carb sync ports on the intake rubbers. The manual petcocks on the 77 and prior KZs were a piece of crap. I use the vacuum type and rarely have a problem. The diaphram is only like $10 and will fix most problems.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

If a vacuum petcock is fitted, I would remove the carb holder with the vacuum fitting the petcock will be connected to and turn it so that the vacuum fitting is pointed upwards. They tend to collect gas when pointed down in their normal orientation and the gas can cause the petcock diaphragm to deteriorate prematurely. On the 650, I would probably use the #1 carb for vacuum as it is fairly easy to put a hose from a manometer on that vacuum fitting when synchronizing.

I just installed a pingel manual shutoff on my '77 650 and even in the shutoff position there is still a puddle of fuel under the bike the next day. Still the same old problem. Maybe I should have nought the expensive model?

something's not right there... take off your fuel line and route it to a little can or something and just sit and watch it

a brand new Pingel should NOT leak in the off position
