Some Options:
Solder;
JBWeld;
Shrink tubing;
Fit a snug fitting plastic hose over entire length of the crack.

Good Luck! :)

I'd use silver solder and a little mini torch. Buff the brass real bright and use the same acid flux plumbers use when they solder hot water pipe fittings.

ok i will do this or excuse me i must tell the truth, i will have it done by a gentalmen that will do the job right, im very happy about finding the problem. while looking for the leak i have noticed that the pet-cock has quit working but that looks like no big deal, 30 bucks and that will be fixed too. btw my fiance is looking for an old kawi now, any suggestions on a cool old kz, im thinking an old 440 sounds fun

its a vacuum operated with on-pri-res settings, when i 1st got the bike it would not run fuel with the engine off (you know like its suppost to) but now it constantly runs fuel, the diaphram or an 0ring must of died in it.

Z1E lists the petcock repair kit for $20.76

and diaphram alone for
$12.46

Enough crud and grit sometimes accumulates inside to prevent proper function.

Before purchasing any new parts, would remove, disassemble, and clean the existing petcock, as this might be all that's needed to restore its proper function.

Good Luck! :)

As far as your fiance goes, a 400 or 440 is a great starter bike. My first bike was a 1979 kz400 Ltd and when I got my '82 kz750 Ltd it looked like big brother/little brother with almost the same shape and color schemes. You could have a his and hers set. :laugh:

The great thing about the '79 400 was that it used the same carbs as the 82 750 so I already had some experience with them. Trying to work on my 900's VM26's is scary compared to how simple the CV34's are.

Good luck

she already rides, i got her riding when we 1st started dating 5 years ago, we started her on a 250 honda nighthawk, then a 25o ninja, 500 ninja, zx-6r ninja & now she rides a suzuki gsx-r 750. she thinks these old bike's are neat, i used to have a 79 kz 400 & a 82 440ltd, she says she would like one of those now. im kicking myself now but 3 years ago i purchased a 79 or 80 (i cant remember now)400 and all i did was put in a new batt and she fired right up, i only gave a $100 for it.

Hmmm, I'm guessing if she's riding a 750 now, the 400 might be a little light for her.
