Clear (or colored) vinyl will go bad in a matter of days or weeks. Clear (or colored) urethane tubing may last a year, but will eventually harden, crack, turn brown etc. In Illinois we get a lot of alcohol in the gasoline and it kills plastic fuel line very quickly.
For anything permanent you really should only be using black rubber (Viton or maybe nitrile) fuel line... thin-wall if you can find it. My 550 uses 5/16", but I have to use clamps to prevent leaks.
