Carb kit confusion was created by rdgrnr
Which jets do I use for a stock setup on my 77 650?
Included in the kits are 97, 97.5, 102, and 102.5.
There are no mods to the 650.
Which mixture screw do I use? There are 2 included, one is longer and more tapered than the other.
What would be the stock clip postion for the needle?
Thanks

found a few threads on this, and I think the 102.5's and the needle at the 4th from top is how I will go. The mains are 15. Anyone with corrections to this please post.
Thanks

OK,
Carbs are back together except for the bottoms, does anyone know how to adjust the floats with the carbs off?

The "wet" method is prefered but I did mine dry about a year ago and seems to work fine. If I remember correctly it was 22 or 24mm from carb base to bottom of float (upside down) Let others correct me if I'm wrong.

I found a thread gauge I had laying around and used it to measure float height using the shoulder of the carbs. 3 were at about 25mm and one was at 22mm. I adjusted the one to 25mm and hope it works. Although this seems kinda high by looking at it. I'm wondering if 25 might starve the carbs.
Maybe I could rig a tube into the drain screw and do a wet level.

I used to use a thin piece of clear plastic tubing with the end taperd a bit. I just shove it in the drain hole and open the petcock.

was thinking the same thing..I can't seem to bring myself to spend 60 some on a "tube and valve".
Perhaps a trip to the hardware store might help.

The reason I never did the wet method is that if the floats needed adjustment it was a PITA to remove the carb bowls multiple times on the bike! Some member here had a great idea, he screwed a couple old carb holders to a piece of wood, clamped the wood in a vice, mounted the carbs and now is waaaaay easier to remove bowls for adjustment. He used a small gas tank off a lawnmower or something for fuel supply.

makes way more sense than taking the bowls off on the bike. And taking carbs off as a unit can lead to multiple bruises as a fingernail on my left hand can attest to...

The "wet" method is really a bunch of crap because as bluemeanie said you have to remove the carbs, disassemble, reassemble and reinstall on the bike to check, then the bike needs to be 100% level to be any even close idea as to the fuel level. The carbs were set up pretty much so as if the tab on the float is not bent the level is at about 25mm. This is dang close enough. Have you ever ran out of gas and had the motorcyle just running along then all of a sudden--- crap. What level do you think the float was when the----crap started? pretty low. The float level is not all that important.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
