So I should be OK ordering stock 1980 kz1000 boots from z1e when available? Thanks for your help. When new boots arrive I'll get the current jet sizes..

OK. couldn't wait, Just got back from a ride and its not pulling like it use toooo...

This is the deal/recap.... After reading and reading, I checked the voltage at my coils, it was barely 10.. did the rewire, now I have 12 volts at the coils. Put the bike back together, rode and now I'm leaning out in the high rpms, when I choke it, it naturally runs better... JETS.

So since I have a 80 1000 z1, that has the fuel injection removed by previous owner, and holes plugged.. with normal carbs on it... I am now trying to figure out what carbs I truelly have A. for new boots B. new jets........

I just pulled apart the carbs and as instructed the numbers on the carbs that attach to the bracket are b9 (with a 12 or 1 2 under it) EDGE OF CARB 4 STILL IN BRACKET
Carb 1 had a 113 with a 1 under it that I could see..

Again the carbs are still in the bracket holder, had trouble figureing how to get them out easily......
the jets currentlly are 110 and 17.5... oh, and the inside diameter of the carb attaching to the motor is 1 1/8" (tom i'm bying a real ruler, sorry)

BLAH Blah sorry guys... My questions are what carbs do I have and what is the suggestion for new Jets. I'm running a Kerker with no Baffle and emgos:( Thanks:pinch: :pinch:

As it was pulling well with 110 main jets before changing to pods and unbaffled 4/12 Kerker, might try two sizes larger main jets (115). If first quarter throttle performance is satisfactory, could retain 17.5 primary jets.

After further studying the first pic, I believe the carbs are not 29mm smoothbores. Although difficult to clearly see, there seems to be a side located drain screw at bottom of float bowl with a drain nipple close beside and behind the drain screw. Only a few early model 29 smoothhbores had a side located drain screw and none of then had a floatbowl overflow nipple. The 29 smoothbore has a single large drain screw on bottom of float bowl allowing quick access to the main jet.

The oem 26mm Mikunis on KZ900LTD have two fuel lines into the carbs.

Good Luck! :)

A pic of the existing mainjet may help identify the style needed, as Mikuni mainjet styles include large round, round, small round, large hex, small hex, and perhaps others.

Perhaps be able to replace main jets without positive identification of exact carb involved. :)

More than likely there 26's or 28's...with acc. pump removed. Measure the ID on the head side of the carb. That will tell you what size you have.

They are from a 79/80 MK II VM28SS w/accelerator pump removed. #102 mains, 5CN17-3 jet needle, 0-4 needle jet and #15 pilot jet.

I would ensure the holes in the venturi where the nozzles went are plugged. Jetting should be #120 mains, reclip jet needle to 4th slot and #20 pilot jets.
