Funy you should mention that, took my carbs off the rack and boiled one of them along with my float bowls in lemon juice, white vinegar and water last night.

The fumes, were quite frankly, worrying. But after an hour or two of running extractor fans and box fans, the smell was gone.

Cleaned them up pretty good! The float bowls are shining like chrome after a little scrub of mothers and the internal passageways all seem to be clear after some prolific air can spraying.

Im wondering if I can use 50% lemon juice and 50% water for the other carb instead of using any vinegar, if it wont be too bad, fume wise..

what kind of effect does this have on the rubber o-rings?

Did you guys take everything apart before boiling them?

I accidentally left my micture screws in, so ill check the o-rings on those when i get home. Other than that I was just boiling the carb body. All of the jets and rubber bits etc i had already taken out.

From what I ahve read elsewhere, this kind of mixture does not damage the rubber, but we shall see in a few hours ;)

I'll also put up some before after pics. Not a huge difference on mine since they were relatively clean.

From what I've been reading you can use one or the other or both.. They say you can add salt also but I didn't. Here's a pic.. Oh, by the way DO NOT BOIL throttle slides, it took the smooth finish right off of it.. I might need another one now because it doesn't slide quite as smooth as the other ones. Does anyone have a spare throttle slide for VM24's.. I hope I don't need it.. I'll try to lube it a bit and see if it slides more freely.. Yeah, They're all apart but the choke.. All of the O-rings came out just fine.. I boiled the parts too.. Can you buy just the air mixture screws? I have the stupid carbs with fuel and mixture screws. I don't want to buy a whole kit just for that..

Ok, it was a two step process. Boiling and the buffing with a dremmel.. Look pretty good.

Thanks for posting this. I was just at Napa yesterday and wasn't willing to give up the $42 they wanted for the Napa brand carb dip. So of to the store I went to buy vinegar and lemon juice!!!

I've got my carbs partially dissasembled right now.

Did you just use the mothers polish and a little buff with your dremel to polish them?

I was going to do that, but first I tried a little round wire brush on the dremmil. Like a cutting disc ony very small little wires. It came in a polishing kit I have. Thay came out great!!! I have the mothers, but this was blazing fast and cheaper. If you used mothers and the buffing wheels, you will go through quite a few of them. You would have to use some im the mothers and then buff it whith dry ones. It is much cheaper, faster and I assume better looking this way. There are no scratches what so ever, smooth man, smooth..
