Each circuit in the carburetor has an optimal ratio (they are all close but not exactly 14:1) and at open throttle, 14:1 would be very rich. At idle it would be lean.

14:1 would be really lean at wide open throttle as well as at idle.

Operating Mode Recommended AFR

Cold Start (first 30 sec) 11.5-12.5

Idle 12.8-13.5

Part Throttle Cruise 13.0-14.0

Wide Open Throttle 12.5-12.8 (values down to 11.5 may be used to reduce detonation)

Link

There are folks that run up to 18:1 AFR at cruise, but the slightest additional throttle movement will put it in a lean surge, 16:1 is normally the limit for cruise.

12.5:1 is generally accepted as the max power AFR at wide open throttle.

Turbocharged motors often run 11:1-11.5:1 for cooling and to prevent detonation at WOT.

Innovate LC-1 wired to a MegaSquirt with datalogging on a Palm is cool, just ask Dave Sloan :)

I have been reviewing fuel maps for awhile now, I want to be as close as possible for engine break-in on the MegaSquirted motor :)
