i ran into the same thing with a 80 csr650 i had over the summer.
it turned out to be a pickup in the ignition getting hot and dropping out.
changed to a dyna ignition and solved that problum.
a good test is warm it up and check the resistance value of both pickups.
very intermitten problum so it was hard to find.
someday i will be able to afford my kz habit.
