Ok so my starter hasnt worked in a while so when i want to ride i have to push start it, the rebuilt kit is on the way but i can't go a day without riding, you guys understand,
anyway the battery is dead so at first the spark isn't so hot but after i run it for a sec it gets going,

ok the problem today i was riding to work when a car cut me of and had to slam on the breaks making me stall

so usually i'll just have to push it a few feet and pop the clutch and the bike gets going again, usually the compression is pretty hard, i mean it;s hard to turn that rear wheel when the clutch is released, but now after having this insident today i can walk next to the bike in first gear and the compression is not as hard. whats going on? tranny? gears? the pistons have comression.

Now i know push starting is not practical at all but can it really mess u the tranny? engine?

any help is apreciated. thanx guys :S

A little more information might help. Does it run any different? Make any new noises? Anything different at all????

maybe everything is just moving easier since the oil is hot and runny, not cold and thick...

Clutch might be slipping. We need some more info to make a better diagnosis.

Just a shot in the dark, but are all the plugs tight? If one or more is loose for some reason, that would ease up on the compression allot.

That and just make sure that you are in first gear.

Other than that, I'm clueless.

What gear were you in? A higher gear will make it easier to push.

clutch cables can get sticky, clutch plates can crumble, timing chains can jump. Make sure the release arm on the clutch shaft is all the way released.

Sounds like there are a few problems here. You said the battery is dead. You need to get that manual out and run through the tests to see if you have a charging problem. Is clutch sticking?Do you have a compresion testor?

Can you shift through all the gears? Can you hear or feel the engine turning over like before?

I've never been able to push start in 1st gear, too hard and the back tire would slip too much. I always use 3rd for push starts, but even then I couldn't just walk next to it indefinitely (my gpz has higher compression, though).

Just remember to not ride off immediately, let some oil pressure build up for 10 or 20 seconds before taking off. I do wonder, though, if it may be bad since the motor is starting under a slight load while connected to the bike and the load is in heavy pulses before the oil pressure builds up and before you can pull the clutch back in.
