Totally agree. I honestly don’t think the previous owner even knew it was dug into previously. But, you buy something used, you take your chances. I’m not sure if it could be worse, but it always could be worse. Just looking forward to when it’s all back together and I can get some miles in. Save up for a liner, rings, and maybe a new head and it should be a good bike for years. And I know people who can’t afford new bikes always say this, but right now I’m much happier bringing back an old bike than having a newer one for the same cost……ah, maybe I’d rather have a newer one. 😆
I used to have a sticker on the bottom of my licence plate years ago that read "old but paid for" :)

Update, bike is out of the shop. Running well and not blowing much of anything for smoke with the condition cylinder #3 is in. I sort of feel for the price of the repair, I should have just bought a new(used) engine off the hop. 😆
But then, you don’t know the condition of that engine either. I’ll ride it, and if it gets bad, consider my options at that point. Tight cam issue was resolved so that’s not a concern.
Nice to have the bike back and another one on the road.

I should have pushed and asked but when it was all together, I asked if it was still tight and he said he got it all taken care of. I was hoping he would have expanded into the why, but he’s not a real talkative guy so I thought I would let that one slide by.

I guess the main thing is it's running :) - there is a life lesson in there for you though - I have spent over 40 years in the automotive industry so I will translate for you

"I asked if it was still tight and he said he got it all taken care of"  = "I f@+$K'd up and you paid me to put it right"
Might seem cynical but the industry makes you that way
