Oil in the Air Box was created by daveo
Was finding oil puddling in the bottom of my air box...

It was coming out the rubber hose that connects the breather cover to the air box, and making a bloody mess...

Is that a common issue with the big fours?

Probably, but not more than usual...well, maybe a little.

But I don't feel guilty...she likes it you know.

Time for a compression test. Oil in the air box is caused by excessive positive crankcase pressure due to compression blowby then venting through the crankcase breather.

Excess crankcase pressure can also be caused by a blockage/restriction in the breather system

How much oil?  Some light residue is normal.  A puddle, is not.  Also, what type of oil are you using?  It may be time for 20W-50, if you ride when it's warm.

    Been using Rotella 15W40 T4...
Wasn't finding much oil, but residue buildup over the span of several 5-8k rpm rides.

    This stopped that completely:

...and there are no oil leaks anywhere on the motor!

    Dry as a bone!

Yeah, That's why I put oil vapor catch cans on my cars.
Gotta love sending oil vapors into your cylinder.
Drops the octane value on your gasoline.
Which makes you more susceptible to detonation.
Not emissions friendly but I reroute the hose to vent below the bike. Plug the airbox fitting.
You could put a pressure gauge on the hose to see how much blowby you are getting.

    7/06/24 compression check results:
     cyl      psi
    1 & 4  160
    2 & 3  145-150

Half a quart of oil evaporated on today's 100 +/- mile ride...

She loved every breathtaking moment through which we flew!!!

Love that solution Dave, is that "ram air" filter foam or something similar that won't cause a pressure build up??

Yes, and it performs much better than expected.

It's a strip cut from a sheet of RamAir filter media I acquired nearly ten years ago.

It may be similar to the material used in their product offerings today.
