KZ1000 - what is inside sprocket cover ?

Hi all,
I am puzzled by this large part which is on the inside of the front sprocket cover, held by 4 JIS screws.
What is its role ?
It seems like there may be some kind of cork gasket behind it.
I'm struggling to remove the 4 JIS screws (I have the proper bit set, but it's held tight).
My Clymer book does not say much.
Cheers

Behind the "inside" sprocket cover is a foam that should damping the chain rattling noise but it´s only catching dust and grime, nothinig more or less. On later bikes the inside metal cover is perforated with holes to amplify the noise reduction effect.

edit: add a pic of the foam and "inside" cover.

    Thanks Scirocco !
I can start to think how far I want to risk mangling the screws to disassemble this.
I guess the "cork gasket" I was surmising was just foam and dirt and oil and all these chewed and mixed by the chain and sprocket. Might be the best sound-deadening material I'll ever get in there...
