So early this year I fell into the trap of cheap project bike what could go wrong... well everything. Polish bike,, 650 euro and 300 to ship , they are a rare bike over here...perfect. I’ll be posting a build thread at some stage when I’m not so angry about the whole affair but for now I thought I’d share the last 2 days nightmare. If I could only understand the reason behind the thought process of some "mechanics" and I use the term loose.. like real loose. I finally got the time to make a start on the engine, strip it back, put in new seals and gaskets as she was caked in oil. In my head I’m thinking what’s the worst that could go wrong... well I’ll show you. First thing even before the motor came out of the frame was this.

Fairly hacked up but iv seen worse.

Then there was the 6 bolts broken in the casings, these we all filled in with gasket seal in a failed attempt to stop oil from coming out, hence the oil caked engine. That aside i figured a day getting them out would be on the cards.

Outside of the jack job on the nut the housing is in real good nick , so I turned my attention to the other side and that when I saw what ruined my day.

So the crank is junk and the most annoying thing is that its a perfect crank outside that, i just cant understand, why any one would do that? Its the hack job of all hack jobs. So long story short, i need a new crank and new cases as on closer inspection the lower case is junk too. there are way too.. and i was in a good mood this morning. P.s im sorry for the video error things, i used an iphone 11 and i cant get rid of them now.

If it was a welded bolt id be ok with that...kinda. its welding of a thread one size down from the bolt that should have gone there and then the grinding down of the shaft after. For what though? cause they couldn't find a bolt to fit? the logic still has my head scratching.

Damn! Sorry to hear of your discoveries with that motor, Streetfighter. Here in the states, we'd call whoever worked on that motor a "hammer mechanic".

I just learned the same lesson with a cheap 650 I'm trying to bring back to life. But not as bad as yours. I hope your frame is in better shape.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.
