Megaphone Baffle Packing
01 Sep 2020 19:30
Liking to quiet the exhaust sound down, and wonder if fiberglass packing will produce the best result?
There is no quiet-baffle available that I am aware of.
Currently using the V&H Street Baffle with no sound deadening material.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationGet the mat type. It will do the job and last longer.

Is there a better way to do it, than just wrapping it tight and stuffing as much in as possible?
When the header was all shiny new ten years ago, the baffle had a thin fiberglass sheet held together with a couple pieces of tape.
That sheit ended up a shredded mess in short order, and something bout that didn't seem right.

I use thin steel wire to hold the glass mat. Tape can melt and make it difficult to remove the mat later.
I only use mat specific to exhausts, like what is shown. Construction fiberglass insulation supposedly disintegrates over time.

its preferable to use stainless steel wool in on the inside and fiberglass on the outside as it handles the heat better than fiberglass. I use safety wire to hold the matt on. this will make it quieter at idle but the only way to really quiet down an exhaust at full tilt is to increase the volume of the muffler.

How many wraps do you suggest applying around the baffle, and how tightly?
Is this the SS wool you recommended using?

I don't think that's needed. My baffles came with the usual packing with the wire in a cross pattern. The mat works well. I'd wrap it for a tight fit.

just one layer of the stainless. Stainless doesn't dampen the sound as well as fiberglass but it handles the heat much better. This is the kit I used the last time I repacked the mufflers on my Aprilia, it comes with a stainless mesh as well. I would wrap as much as you can and as tight as you can and still get it in there.
