I have the Delkevic with the slim muffler on my kz650.
Sounds great, and quality looks good.
I did not use the sealant they supplied to use for the slip on muffler, and am getting some exhaust blow out at the connection.

Did you use any sealer at the collector?

No, I didn't use the sealant on the collector.
I didn't use any sealer anywhere, as I didn't want to get it on the exhaust.
Only place it leaks is where the muffler and pipe connection is.
In the above picture you can see the black on the pipe in front of the muffler.
Below, all still clean:

I was on my KZ650 today and it ran great. Im upgrading to iridium NGK plugs this week, as I do on all my bikes,

I have bikes that absolutely ROAR from the exhaust, but the KZ650 stock exhausts are tame in comparison.

I made a post saying Im thinking of switching to the Delkevic, but Im not so sure now .

Are there any downsides to the stock exhaust in comparison to aftermarket exhausts such as Delkevic?

I go fast plenty, and got up to 115mph on the KZ this summer (dont ask where)

Thoughts?!

Honestly, unless you are measuring small power increases (through dyno pulls or track et's) , the main reasons for swapping pipes are generally looks and sound.
If you are happy with the look and sound of your factory exhaust, there isn't much need to change.
I swapped pipes on several bikes and while the top end generally felt stronger after adding more fuel, the smooth delivery of the torque curve was generally better with the stock pipes. That is assuming it wasn't a model that was restrictive to begin with.

Previously, I upped jets and induction on a factory kz900ltd and kept the stock 2into2 pipes. It had a marked improvement in power without any exhaust upgrades.
I had a CX500 that had a chopped exhaust, and while it made much better top end, it lagged at lower rpms.
It seemed to be the same story, on many other bikes throughout the years. Just my 2cents.

I was dubious about the sealer provided as well. I may use it now after seeing your experience.

Beautiful bike, btw.
