Welp, Some of you might have noticed that I bought the new in box exhaust system from Seanille in the for sale section. I think I saw it only minutes after he posted it, and was the first to email him about it.It should be here by next Tuesday according to the tracking info. It appears to be the same system that Z1 sells, and is a NIB 2016 model. Anyway..
www.z1enterprises.com/delkevic-kz1000k-m...-exhaust-system.html

I want to put this out there asking about any pitfalls or special considerations that need to be considered with the install on a completely stock 1981 Kz1000K1. Stock meaning the air box and CV carbs, with original jetting. I don't want to make the bike much louder than is already is, but would like to change the "quiet tone" a little. It runs like a bat outa hell now, and am really not looking to bastardize it into some mix / match freak show. :-)

It looks great in the pics, but in person, may be a different story.

It definitely looks like my neato motorcycle jack will be a thing of the past, but it does allow for keeping the center stand.

I don't use the jack that much anyway, but it is great for getting both ends in the air at the same time.

From the pics it looks like the lower pipes are routed directly beneath the center of the engine. If so, the header section may obstruct access for periodic service unless loosened or removed.

It does appear to run directly under the oil filter and drain plug, of which is already a PITA to change with the stock system. This is a copy / paste from the Z1 ad on this exhaust.
"Complete Stainless Steel Exhaust system for the KZ1000K LTD & KZ1000M CSR models. Comes with removable baffle. The oil filter can be changed without removing the pipe from the bike. This exhaust can be made to fit the J- P and R models with some modification to the rear mount bracket."

AND..

"- Typically no rejetting or remapping is required after fEitment if using the quietest baffle setting- however we always recommend a dyno test after fitting replacement parts to your motorcycle."

I put this exhaust on my 1978 kz 1000 LTD. Pretty easy installation. Plenty of clearance to change the oil and filter.

The package came today. All I can say so far is I am impressed. This exhaust is just plain NICE. It took me about an hour to unwrap, but is DEFINITELY a new in box item, as Sean described it. I did take a few pics. I don't want to rush the install because I want to clean up a few things when I start to install it. I will work on it tomorrow . Here are a few pics just to wet your whistle while unwrapping this present. :-)

THIS is coming off> That is my 81 Kz1000 CSR in the background. Another caged animal. :-)

Check out the craftsmanship on these pipes.

This is a very high quality piece.

The welds look so perfect they almost have to be done by robot /automation.

Just stunning is the best I can use to describe it. I had a Vance and Hines for the bike that I sold while I never installed it. (consideration of my neighbors, now out the window). The V&H stuff is nice but wayyyy overpriced IMHO.

Will get a complete assembled pic later.

This is the V&H I sold years ago. I think these sell for ~800 bucks. I sold it for 150 5 years ago.

I agree with the V & H pipes being WAY overpriced and the Kerker systems too. I had the Kerker systems on both my Honda CB 750's and liked those too. I 150% agree on these Delkevic system , easy to install , excellent built product and PRICED. Louder than I thought it would be not too much though. May get some baffle material to try quiet down a little. MAYBE......(;>

If my KZ did not already have a stainless system already on it i would without a doubt put a delkevic on it, had one on my old XS650, and have one for my 350four.

I had a new V&H pipe for about a year. a few late season (post salt) rides ruined it. I went with the Delk on my 650, & I love it! WAY more "snarly" than the Vance. It sounds like an F-1 car at revs! You will love it! There probably will be some discoloration (bluing) at least there is on mine. As to their claim of not needing to re-jet, I cannot authoritatively confirm, but IMHO, you usually need to do so when switching to a 4 to 1.

YES! Delkevic, Quality items! I like stainless, might yellow up when ran, but, you have to know that going into stainless! You should anyway.
I cleaned mine up with some stainless bolts & washers instead of studs and 1/2" length spacers to hide threads.
