Maybe it is just a photo distortion, but it looks like there is a crack beside the sparkplug, and there seems to be a layer of epoxy down there, too,

I've tried removing the epoxy to see if I can see a crack. So far unable to find one though. There's not much room between the fins.
Definitely can't see any cracks anywhere though.
Got to get back to work now though. Will keep you posted. David

After i take a closer look on the oil flow chart, i am with loudhvx, +1 agree!

Op could try some crack testing dye, there was a thread here a while ago on it.

from selling a few of these it seems like 550 heads difficult to sell £30 maybe, 750 heads £100,

You could consider the zx750 head with bathtub chambers and hotter cams. There is some clearance issues here - not sure the answer. Last one I sold went to a UK guy making a Bonnerville salt racer to take over to USA , he was dead serious about it.

To do this right is a top end strip, new cam , head and base gaskets, remove /clean/ loctite 12 studs -you know one will likely break or stick...oil seals and ideally new rings and hone ... Probably grind the valves in and blast or paint the head. All seems a load of work for a minor oil leak.

Hi there again. I've taken the barrels off(jugs to you Americans!) & Even though I tried with a vacuum cleaner to suck out any debris, a fair amount of junk fell into the engine.
I've got most of it out but I bet there's still a lot of nasty news still inside ! Is there any way I can flush out y removing the sump ?

Also I'm pretty much sure that my oil leak is coming UP the stud from the threads as some of you said.
Bought some 3bond to repair it with.

Last thing, the tiny rubber cam chain idler dampers & the ones that fit between the middle cam sprocket are rock hard (no cracks though) should I replace them of am I being paranoid?

Hope you're having less problems than me!!!
Guess the make of my van !

Van: Ford?

I'm looking at the pics of the epoxy repair and am thinking the head has been damaged by striking something, or a hammer blow...

The top fin looks like it has been sanded smooth...

I just reuse mine with a dab of silicon unless they are damaged. Good thing pulling the barrels. That carbon can scratch the hell out of the bores. I use diesel to flush out the cases. It's cheap and won't harm anything. Hell Miller used a garden hose to flush out his engines. He said the water will evaporate but I'd rather use diesel.

Just re-read this thread, this 'thank you' button feature is seriously fucked here.

Is it about accuracy of advice or just some ' in crowd ' thing?

I knew how hard I'd try I'd get junk down in the motor so I pulled it and mounted it to a car stand and sprayed it out with gas first (I know bad idea Steve's idea on kerosene or diesel is way better) then brake cleaner a little carb cleaner and followed it up with WD40 and then reg motor oil before buttoning it up.The pressure from the cans really got it spot less and the pan, pump etc will be so much nicer too when your done.
