I've had good experience with VHT Universal Aluminum. DO NOT EVER USE VHT Nu-Cast Aluminum!!!! It turns bright gold when the engine gets hot. No exaggeration.

VHT looks nice when sprayed but it's brittle as glass and will crack and flake off under the bolts. It's not chemical resistant either. I spilled a small amount of gas on an engine cover what was well heat cured and it caused damage even though it was quickly wiped off.

I ran mine for quite awhile with the head and block painted with VHT and didn't see any problems. My crankcase was painted with garbage that washed off with gas. I have a painted cover I'll test with gasoline. Was your engine hot when you spilled gas on it?

Is it just me? The forum has been shutting down on a regular basis with a 503 error.

I've had that happen to me quite a few times over the past couple days, but it hasn't happened yet today. Ed

I've noticed the shut down notice quite regularly lately.

Can't remember if the engine was hot when the gas was spilled. The paint cracked under the bolt heads when the engine covers were installed, and I cured the paint in an over before engine assembly per instructions on the can.

Don't know if there's anyway of avoiding cracking under the bolt heads. But with mine it wasn't noticeable because it didn't crack surrounding the head.

You could have bolts in the holes before you spray to avoid that. I used washers covering where all the head nuts seat. Really important there's no paint under the outer sealing washers when you bolt it down.

Bar-b-que paint. FWIW. I painted the manifold crossover section of a very nice muffler system with Rustoleum high heat ultra
Silver bar-b-que grill paint & it has held up well. The chrome was in excellent condition. still is. the typical rusty areas were
wire-wheeled using soft jewelers brass wheels, but I didn't roughen the chrome with sandpaper or anything. After a few thousand miles,
the paint is in very good condition with only a few chips. was expecting at least some of the paint to burn off. nope, not at all.
