Are KZ engines painted? was created by VTEC
Just got a used case from an '81 KZ1000 CSR, and it's painted. Looking at a bunch of others on Ebay and they all look painted. Are they painted from the factory? Thought they were bare aluminum.

I guess some of the later and smaller models were. Cheaper to do.

Some models were. For example, most KZ650 models were bare aluminum, but some later bikes like the 1981 and later KZ650-F models had black painted engines. Ed

I'm looking at all the sliver '81 and up J engines. LTD, CSR and Police. Started cleaning up the case I got, and the paint is difficult coming off with stripper.

Thought so. They used good stuff. Might be more than it's worth to strip it then clean it up to make it look good. Mine wasn't painted but I didn't have the resources and time to do it so I painted it black.

My plan is to re-paint. Just don't want to without all the old paint gone first. And trying to avoid sending it out for blasting.

Get rid of all the loose crap and focus on the places you can see. What color?

In the 550's, some standards (A model) were painted black, and maybe the Spectre was painted silver? I thought some 1100 cruisers were painted also.

I'd love to know what kind of paint Kawasaki used. They painted the engine inside and out before final machining and the paint is impervious to oil and heat. Commonly available rattle can paint is pure crap in comparison.
