cam chain rollers was created by Reoccur
Hello everyone
This is in regards to the cam chain system
I am reassembling my engine (1979 KZ650c3) The two rubber rollers are shot i picked up a a new bottom one.
The three sprocket type ones have bad deteriorated rubber. I have removed all the rubber off one fairly easily.
So my question is Can I just remove all the rubber off them and run them? I am guessing it would just be a little louder?
The bearings seam okay.
I have seen some after market ones that don't have the rubber but had a different shape to them.

yes you can remove that rubber and use them.
it is the thin rubber sleeve between the sprocket and bearing sleeve that you have to be concerned with.

The rubber on the sprocket ring is only for noise dampening so there is no problem removing the deteriorated portions.
However! the rest of the rubber on the sprockets will be of the same condition and close to failure which will lead to the separation of the sprocket ring from the bearing section.
Best to replace the idlers with new items (oem or Liska etc) or if you have the means (a lathe) you can press them apart and replace the old rubber center with aluminium which will extend their life for many many years.

Thanks guys I can see the rubber sleeve. that's a problem dang it !
Going to the new solid style is the only realist option less money more noise.
Plenty to think about. This bike won't see a lot of use. Have two more 79 gs850 and 01 gsf1200s.

Thanks for advice and feedback

I bought the Liska (Z1) and you can pick up a large oem rubber wheel off Ebay (Z1 looked around and found one for me but Ebay might be better for that).... kept the rubber on the center sprocket and cam sprockets as they were still in decent shape but ti looks like you should remove yours. Pick up new rubber center blocks and gear shaft pads off Z1 as they have em priced nice.
