Ebay Cams- Did I buy scrap metal? was created by nitrokeeb
I bought a set of cams described as Cam Motion Z1/Z2. A little confusing as those are two different cams, but both are "drop ins", and I thought would nicely match my 900. Upon opening the package I did not find either Z1 or Z2 stamped anywhere. So I measured a few lobes to check the lift. Came up with .410 and .420 when measuring one lobe on each cam. That didn't seem right as the Cam Motion didn't seem to have a .410.
I also noticed some pitting on one intake lobe that had me concerned.
I know these cams are usually stamped on the end, but there are no markings to be found except for the casting marks. I tried measuring again today, and the first lobe I checked measured 1.100 at the base circle, and 1.500 tall. Well that matches the .400 lift of the Z1 grind. But the next two lobes I checked had a base circle closer to 1.085, while still being 1.500 tall. That explains the extra lift I measured earlier. if the lobes had worn down a full 15 thou, shouldn't they be shorter? I would think the tip of the lobe would wear more than the sides base circle. Is this normal tolerances for old aftermarket cams? Should I try and return them?

Looks like rust pitting. How much?

It does seem like rust pitting. You can feel the texture with your fingers, but it doesn't catch a fingernail. Other than that, I"m not sure how to measure the depth of the pitting. It runs down both sides of the lobe.

I wouldn't run that cam. I'd return them and make the seller pay the return shipping.

Those cams are junk.
If eBay, file claims ASAP.
Demand return shipping

I requested a return. I will refrain from publicly defaming anyone until this is worked out. You can PM me if you are concerned about buying from this seller. It is a higher volume seller listing "dragbike" parts.

I probably know already. Two come to mind. Been burned by both.
