I have a old 15 I used before I got my new chain setup. Big difference. I didn't want to put on a slightly worn sprocket with my new O ring chain. The rpm's were up at 70 but with the bigger tire (yeah pinched makes it taller) I am at 4000 or so at 80. Power is down off the line too.

Awesome!

I was hoping for 11.5's @ 120 with my new street beater KZ/GPz (Wiseco 1170, etc...), but it doesn't look like I'll make any passes at all this year...maybe next season, I hope.

I would think it would run better than that.

I weigh in at 195 - 200 lbs...just under 6"...and no, I'm not "overweight" and in need of a diet - I lift weights 2-3 hours each week day...the gym at work is free to staff....

At my local track (Gimli, Manitoba - Canada) two years ago, my best time on my stock '81 KZ1000 CSR was 12.67 @ 103 mph. If you think that is slow, a guy I was running against most of the day on a 2004 V-Max got a best of 12.12 @ 112 mph that day. On my best run, I nearly matched his 1000' E.T., as I had left on him and he ran me down at the end, a 12.36 @ 108.8 mph. I've never run my '04 R1's at the track, as I don't think the clutch in the Yamaha would survive more than a pass or two - it doesn't feel very "robust" compared to the KZ's and CBX's.

Last year, because of multiple surgeries on my left arm and shoulder, I only made it to the track once, on my carbureted, MAC 4-1, but otherwise stock '83 GPz1100. It ran a very disappointing best of 12.7 @ 109 mph. The bike isn't pulling as hard as it should up top. I think the 4-1 is strangling it. It was cold and windy - only 4 deg. C (about 35 deg. F) and a 10 mph headwind. The starting line traction that day was horrible, too; I could only feather the throttle of the line. A veteran racer on an stripped down '87 GSXR1100 with a wheelie bar managed only one pass in the high 11's, the rest were all low 12's. Embarrassingly for all of us, a heavy set old guy was running his ZZR14 Concours down in the 11.2 range at 126 mph, but even he was complaining about the track conditions (he was expecting high 10's). On one pass against him, to add insult to injury, not only did he run a full 1.3 seconds faster than me, he did it with his heated grips on....!

Years ago my very healthy '79 CBX ran an 11.62 @ 119 with me on it (I weighed about 165 at the time), but a local racer that weighed 125 lbs. got on it for one pass and went 11.00 @ 125...he was known to beat guys on the early 900 Ninjas with his modified '79 CB750F, his best time on the 750 was 11.98. After trying my CBX, he bought one and sold his 750.

My new beater KZ (it will take the place of the CSR I'm selling as my daily hack) is an 1170 Wiseco, ported KZ-J head, 83 GPz1100 Cams, Mikuni RS38's, undercut trans, APE clutch, stainless 4-1, Dyna ignition, two stage limiter, in a 425 lbs. street fighter style chassis. That I'm expecting to run 11.5's; hoping for 11.2's.

I'm expecting mid - low 10's, hoping for maybe high 9's, when my own (and jberger635's) KZ / GPz 1394 Big Block engines hit the track in the next year or so....

Ha - ha, no issues with this guy; I don't take things that seriously

I was illustrating the general realism of average riders running a street bike (I don't even remove the mirrors - I run as it would be on the road) down the 1/4 mile . Many riders who read these forums assume their bikes are actually as powerful and fast as the motorcycle magazines claim they are. This, as we know, isn't the truth!!! I still laugh when heavy set green horns show up with stock bikes like GSXR1000's and think their first run on a street bike will be in the 9's....'cause that is what the magazine test said it can do!!! Yeah, sure it will.... :silly: :silly:

I'll say this in my list of poor excuses - KZ / GPz clutches and I don't get along that well. I am much better at launching my portly CBX than either of the Kawasaki's I've run at the track. I have a tough time modulating the KZ's clutch, and mostly end up bogging or, in the case of my GPz, spinning all the way through first. My CBX launches had the rear just "hazing" and giving off a wisp of tire smoke while the front tire just skimmed the surface all the way into second gear, and my reaction times were way better - although that could be age catching up with me, too..... :S

Ha-ha, I am about 2000 miles from Tenn, so I wasn't really serious about throwing down a challenge. Still, if we ever end up at the same track, I'll have a go...

My "little" bike will be "little" 'cause it is going to weigh in at under 400 lbs. gassed up and ready to rip   !

It won't be ready for at least another year, as I have too many other projects in need of attention first, but I have most everything on hand already. I just need a bunch of time to work on it (and only it!).

'Motor is based on an '81 KZ1000J - 1394 cc MTC Big Block, 12.5:1 actual C.R., Cavanaugh Racing Head - dual 10 mm plugs, Web 465 / 435 cams, Kibble White valve springs, Shim under APE buckets and Ti retainers, APE 38.6 in. 33 ex. valves, Falicon prepared crank, w/ Falicon 18 mm Knife rods, '83 GPz1100 undercut trans, Z1 banded steel clutch basket, APE clutch (for now - billet clutch is in the future), Dyna 2000 for the street, Dyna 4000 Pro 8 plug on the track, two stage limiter, possible use of Pingel air shifter on the track. 40 mm RS flat slides (or fuel injected if jberger 635 can get his to work well enough), hand built stainless 4-1 exhaust, 530 chain w/ outboard sprocket bearing plate, wheels 3.50 x 17 front, 6.00 x 17 rear GSXR or R1 (I haven't decided yet), no wheelie bar (or extended swinger on the street), but haven't decided for the track - maybe I'll use an 8-10" x 18" slick.

Set up for the 1/4 mile (and not street), I'd say a 9.5 sec. natural aspirated bike, maybe better :woohoo: , only time will tell...

Oh, and "KZ550" emblems on the sides...to fool the uneducated.
