Oil in Fuel ? was created by kzdcw
I have now ridden my 77' KZ100A that I've been working on for just over 400 miles. Other than measured low compression its a gauge as I stated earlier, it run's pretty decent.

Only thing that perplexes me is that there is a clear oil presence in the gas when I wipe my finger under the overflow fuel nipples at the bottom of the float bowls of the carburetors ? This is when the bike is parked after a ride. At one time I was concerned when I would find fuel on the ground under the bike at times but turned out to be a slow leaking fuel petcock which now has been repaired. Incidentally the float levels are correct with the clear tube method.

Granted there's not much fuel found at the overflow nipples, just a small drop on my fingertip. But never the less there is oil present.

Any Ideas ???

Crankcase Oil Breather not hooked up. Running K&N air filter pods ( 2 ). No stock air cleaner assembly.

I see no oil spray coming out of crankcase oil breather top tube ?

Possibly from pods having been over-oiled?

Never treated the Pods with oil. I was going to when I first installed them but didn't. Normally the K&N oil spray in Red in color when you that the air filters. The pods I received looked like they never were treated at all.

The oil in the gas appears clear and kind of yellowish brown in color.

Should the oil breather tube have a filter on it ? I just left it open to vent into the atmosphere. And as I said when I swipe my finger over the vent tube, there's no oil trace. Nor do I see any oil spray inside the carburetor or engine area.

Should the oil breather tube have a filter on it ? -- NO. Such filters are IMO worthless trouble-makers.

I just left it open to vent into the atmosphere -- That's just fine. :cheer:

Your oil mist is condensing on the cold carb bowls, a length of hose from breather vent to a beer can catch tank is the usual way to do it. You will get a small amount oil collecting in it.

I had the hose routed up then down to the chain. A oil mist would be good for it.

I tend to doubt you actually have oil getting into the fuel. Fuel in the oil on the other hand is quite common when the carbs are overflowing like you mention. Sometimes when the petcock fails there is fuel flowing backwards down the vacuum line and into the carbs that way too.

True. My BSA Cyclone engine had the breather tube on a port in the engine case directly above the counter sprocket to keep the chain lubed. Ed
