If the oil in your bike is meant for newer cars with catalytic converter, AND the container talks about friction modifiers and is NOT meant for a wet clutch then change it now. These car oils have little or no zinc and that is a bad thing.

If it says "energy conserving" on the can you need to dump it because it has the moly in it that can screw up a clutch. Check the can.Zaddict wrote: ...instead of 10w-40 Mobil 1 synthetic for motorcycles. Only noticed my mistake after I'd changed the oil. I understand there may be some issues with clutch slip/wear? I think you dodged a bullet. One thing to consider, it probably is low on zinc. If you want to run it a while (I would) you can bump the zinc maybe 600 - 800 ppm by dumping in half a can of STP oil treatment (the high mileage stuff). Most car oils now have about 600 ppm so a 600 ppm increase takes it up to where it should be. The STP will also bump the viscosity of the oil a bit and make 10-30 more like 15-35 which is closer to what you want anyway.Zaddict wrote: OK, thanks for the advice all. I didn't see "energy conserving" on the label

I'll replace the oil and put the 10W-30 in my Land Cruiser. No big deal, I think.
I did take the bike out for a quick ride and didn't notice any difference; other than the fact that it's running great after putting in new jets. Will be installing a Kerker exhaust next weekend
