but if the bolt with the spring is stuck open, i will have a reduction in oil pressure?

The oil filter bolt has what's called a bypass valve built in (spring and ball). If this valve is stuck open oil will still flow normally, only the filter will be bypassed. Of bigger concern is the relief valve in the oil pan. If that sticks open, you won't have any oil pressure.

You peeked my curiosity. I went out to the garage, out my C14 on the center stand. Oil level was at the upper oil mark. I fired the Connie off and with a bright flashlight, watch what appeared to be oil flowing behind the sight glass with no oil in the sight glass. Once I shut her down, oil started filling up the sight glass. Not real fast but the oil level in the glass started rising. I know the Connie is not a KZ but it was easier to put on the center stand than the Z1. I would say what you are seeing is normal.

I agree with the above and with all the other comments that what you are seeing is normal but if you are worried because you just rebuilt the motor then couldn't you just remove the valve cover and see if theres oil in there and set your mind at rest?

If no pressure then your oil light would come on anyway

I'm betting no problem

Rotilla 15/40. To set your mind at ease, use a gauge to check it. It would be nice to see how the oil pressure works at different RPM's. B)

Here's what has always been normal on my KZ650-C1 since the bike was new:

With the engine shut off the oil level can be seen and measured.

With the engine running oil can be seen flowing down the rear portion of the sight glass.

I thank you all for your answers.
I have ready to go new oil, new filter, new oil filter orings ..
I think tomorrow i will drain the oil and the i will unscrew the oil pan to check the damn relief valve. Im sure i will find her movement free and nice. This is just to make me broke the new pan gasket. Grrrr

A gauge would be easier and may stop unnecessary work.

If you have no oil warning light you are fine. Wasting time and money to tear aprat the pan tocheck a bypass. Also that would not inhibit oil pressure, it would still lubricate if clogged, that why it;s a bypass. The difference would be unfiltered oil re circulation thru bypass. Your empty sight glass while rniing is completely normal so long as there is oil in the glass when turned off and allowed to drain. R

I was referring to the oil light or oil pressure warning light on my tach - red light on when ignition is on, off when engine running and oil has pressure. Never saw a need for an oil pressure gauge. If red light comes on when engine running that is warning enough.

The damn relief valve was stuck open!!! I cleaned it and seems fine.
I found a bit of metal scrap in the pan, veru little.
I cleaned all but the real question is: should i have a rubber gasket in the big circle of the oil pan , where the pan contact with the casing?
In my engine this was always missing
I dont mean the oring that goes in the filter cap, but in the inner if the sump.
