Hi guys,

New to the website. Maybe there is a thread about this but I haven't been able to find it. So my horror story starts over a year. I montreal, there was a company that was building cafe racers. Being new to motorcycles and loving the look, I took a leap and did business with them.. Oh do I regret it. I love the bike but oh did they do a BS job on ''restoring'' the bike. Electrical wiring seems to have been done by a 2 year oldm all the wires are exposed to water, etc. Newest problem, I lost a muffler (1 out of 2)on the highway... I had already seen that the welding on the muffler and it didn't seem too good but not as bad as losing a muffler. Today I decided to look at a new muffler (same as the right one). (cone reverse quiet-core). Being from canada, I have to order the muffler from the US. Before I ordered the part, I decided to remove the 4 in 2 pipes from the bike and look at what went wrong. No surprise, the welding broke. I also discovered that this morron painted the pipes black over the chrome oh and also left the pipe that was completly rusted on the bike. It was basically holding to a small piece of metal of pipe.

Ask you can see, I'm in one hell of a project now. (the bike restoration originally cost me 6.5K$) Please don't laugh, I didn't really know what I was doing by doing business with this bike shop. Anyways my question is, with the state of my pipes, I was wondering, can I change it to a 4-1 exhaust system? Does anyone know a place where I can find a 4-2 used in a good condition (in the connection region). What can I do...?

Thanks guys!

You can install a 4-1 from any KZ650 or 750-4 (air cooled models). Including the 99-2005 ZR750 F/H models which have a stock 4-1 muffler system. If not done already, the carburetors may need to be re-jetted after installing a 4-1 system. I would check the spark plugs.

oem mufflers. direct fit. 81-83 650-CSR & 80-83 750H Ltd (same exhaust system). and the 750E standard are a good fit. you can use the mufflers from any other 750-4, but with a non-stock system you may have to fabricate muffler hangers. also, in some cases center stand clearance may be an issue --- the stock 650-csr mufflers have a recess in the LH muffler. Other possible oem options are the earlier 650s, KZ700 & ZN700 (ZN750 in Canada).

PartsnMore.com I believe Partsnmore is in Canada. I've placed a couple of orders with them.

Looks nice. Might have to make a bracket for the mufflers.

The thing is right now on mine, there is no bracket for the mufflers.. (Basically put lipstick on a pig). I found this other one (4-1) off a 2003 ZR750 but not sure it would clear properly under the motorcycle. I no longer have the center stand, just the side one so I hae more space, but the junction seems big. Would it hit the pavement when riding and hitting a bump... Also there seems to be brackets on the front pipes, any one know what these are?

Thanks and sorry for all the questions.. Pretty new to all this, I appreciate all the help guys!

martin_csr wrote: That 750-Ltd system is probably from the F1 Ltd shaft. It will probably fit, but the center stand might bang against it. maybe not though; I'm not sure if it has a recess on the LH muffler or if it's located in the same place as the csr. also, I believe the manifold is supposed to be bolted to the oil pan for support since the mufflers are clamped in place, but it may not be necessary on the csr as you don't need to remove the mufflers to remove the rear wheel. the 650 oil pan is different in that regard.

ZR750 exhaust. Here's Andy-the-Gringos bike w ZR-7 exhaust. The fit will be about the same on the 650-CSR.

If you don't want the big up swept mid pipe and muffler you can cut it anywhere and clamp or weld the can of your choice. Great bargain if you consider they are double walled stainless with cross overs. You can usually find them in the states for 150 usd shipped or better.
