all you need is the kick-starter assembly and clutch cover from a 650. You will have to split the cases to install it.

If I had a smaller four I'd do it. I always thought doing away with it was stupid. I didn't know the smaller fours were prone to starter problems and what a PITA it is to fix them. :unsure: The large four starters are so dependable it's not an issue but I wouldn't get rid of mine. Pulled my fat out of the fire countless times in 40 years. :whistle:

Never understood it either have had enough power for it to run but not to start so a kick would allow you to get it started.
This is why I'd like to have that option.

The bike should start with just a touch of the start button in warm weather and within no more than a few seconds when it's cold. If the motorcycle is having starting problems, you should figure that out first. The bike needs a good fully charged battery to run right & the charging system should be working properly. A good smart charger is handy to keep the battery charged during periods of down time if the battery voltage drops from not riding the bike.
