Changed my oil today and found this. Looks like a cam guide. How f*cked am I?

Are there multiple guides in the mkii engines? I'm getting ready to order some parts and don't want to miss anything.

Find your model in the link below and check out the diagrams; they should show all the guides. Ed

Ouch! I think three things cause this.... No timely cam chain tension adjustments or mis adjusted and over revving.

I installed a manual tensioner last summer, maybe I tightened it too much. Bike does have 65k on it. Scary thing is that right up to the point where I drained the oil today it ran fine and didn't make any noise. I'll be tearing into it first thing in the morning, hoping for the best.

The rest og the guides/rollers if any need to be replaced. If yours has rollers you can buy new billet ones at 1/2 the price of OEM and they will last much longer.

Ouch. I'm really hoping I don't have that much damage. This is my only vehicle at the moment and I dont have tons of time and money to spare.

Well, you have to remove the head to fixed this and replace the parts. If you haven't heard the chain slap and grinding, you probably just lucked out and have not put too many miles on it
You'll probably find where the chain has ground into some of the cam chain tunnel areas

Sounds like I have a busy day or two ahead. Fingers crossed I didn't mess up anything other than some rollers.

Turns out it was definitely the cam Chain guide. The center popped right out of it. Some of the idlers and rollers are shot.so I'm looking at replacing them, the cam chain, re-ringing the pistons, etc. Any help or advice with this is appreciated. Not sure how much slack I should have had on the chain after removing the idler so I took a pic. Hoping I can avoid replacing it.
