KZ305 oil filter was created by happyhunter
So, I need to do an oil change on my 305. The manual does not show any picts of the filter and just says to replace it with no details.

Bike bandit lists two filters, both look like regular cartridge filters (like the cars I am used to, just smaller). I thought motorcycles had a filter element that was not encased???????

Someone also mentioned an O ring in the filter that needs to be replaced. I see no mention of that in the manual or on Bikebandit. What is up with an Oring?

My car is broke and I am down to my bike only. I need to do this in one evening with no surprises. help please....

Thanks,
Steve

Hey I like pictures!! What about the Oring PN 671? Does that need replaced? Or can it be reused? Everything else looks to me like it does not need replaced. Am I correct?

The 305 has a one-piece oil bolt w plate, so no oil bolt o-rings. I don't change out that big o-ring every time. not even every other time & I've never had a leak there at the oil filter cover. if it's old, replace it of course.

Oil filters for the next 5 or 10 yrs. works out to less than two bucks each.

The oil filter and O Ring came yesterday. Does the O-Ring need to be wiped in oil before installing (like car oil filter gasket) or does it go in dry?

Thanks,
HH

Wet the o-ring with clean motor oil.

Be POSITIVE that the fresh oil you plan to use has the "JASO-MA" certification printed on the container. If that is not there the oil will very likely damage your bike's clutch. Ed

I just bought Valvoline 10w-40 motorcycle oil (with the JASO MA) at Advance Auto on sale for $4.99 a qt.

Thanks,

I run diesel engine oil in my bikes and most don't bother to test for MA certification yet they are excellent oils for motorcycles. Costco has a sale on Chevron Delo oil right now so I'm going to pick some up. I've also run Valvoline multi fleet oil and it's also excellent. Mobil delvac is also excellent as is the ever popular Shell Rotella.
