HELP Inner step ring installation was created by renomueller
Folks I have a big bore kit for a 1978 KZ1000. It is a Forseti kit. the seller provides no instructions. The piston rings have no marks indicating installation placement on the piston? The top ring is a chrome molly with a square shape and no bevels anywhere, the problem is the second ring has no marks but it does have an inner step. The question is, does the inner step face up on the piston or down? My local dealers were split down the middle, 4 mechs say up, 4 say down?????? Any help would be appreciated.........

I bet if you contacted a Forseti dealer, they could tell you.

I would follow TexasKZ's advice and contact Forseti or one of their authorized dealers. They should know for sure. Ed

Wiseco has a stepped second ring. It goes down if I remember correctly. I'll try and dig up the sheet.

Yes Steve, I believe your are right, there's no reason not to supply specifications with a piston kit and no reason to keep
the manufacturer secret. Thanks for the post and attachments, but I'm leaning toward returning these pistons and putting out the money
for the Wiesco's big bore kit.

It cost me over $500 for the pistons and rings. When I lunched a piston, I was able to get another one. At least you can find them. B)

If you can get a refund, I'd take it, because I don't think you will ever feel 100% satisfied with this product. At best if you install it you will always be second guessing yourself as to whether it's installed correctly etc. unless the suppliers suddenly come up with the goods. My guess is that someone said " how much to make pistons like this" and that meant they could sell some cheap big bore kits,. I'm sure if you get a Wiseco kit some thought, design and testing went into the finished product, you also have numerous users who can testify they've done it right. If this is how they treat their actual customers then it's not hard to imagine how much conscientious effort has gone in to the whole project and how much they care about your bike or safety.

I've heard of cheap knock off piston kits. My cast pistons were advertised as forged. Wiseco K 1015's I installed in 78. In 87, I installed them in new bores. They were still good. Two years ago I opened the motor and found one with a damaged ring land. (too many dry starts) They don't make cast ones anymore so I had to buy new billet 10.25/1 pistons. OUCH The knock offs have a reputation of failure. But like they say, you want cheap, you get cheap.
