Anyone have any tips on how to clean the surfaces up correctly? Can I use a simple scotchbrite pad or is that too aggressive?

If I had it to do over again I would've taken the head completely apart and send the bare head casting to somebody who could bead blast it and make it look like new ....and then have the valves done and reassemble the head!!!
I spent way too many hours cleaning my head with all sorts of chemicals, abrasive wheels, brushes .... everything recommended I tried... all done by hand and I was never totally satisfied.
A $75 bead blasting would have looked stellar and saved me countless hours.

It is starting to get a bit cold. The temperature is fine during the day, but once the sun goes down it drops pretty darn quick.

Today, I decided to take my car to work instead of my trusty kz440. Got half way to work and a damn sparkplug blew out taking the threads with it.

I limped to an O'Reilly and had to pick up a helicoil kit to fix it. I'm certain the threads are the same so I may just use one of the left over coils to fix the plug hole.
