Is this acceptable? was created by Turbo99397
I bought this bike as is... kz1000 1980, idk what's stock n what's not. I don't get much time to work on it as my dad is Ill and I have been visiting him alot. I have some time this weekend finally and I noticed there's a piece of oversized hose from one side of the valve cover to the other. It's leaking for sure, pulling vacuum. If I pull it completely off it pops like crazy from the exhaust. If I plug them with my fingers for a min it stops. It's got stupid pod filters and Iv been fighting that, and my center 2 cyls going dead. Could this be related? Can they be just capped? If not what do I need to do.... I wish I could find a stock airbox for this thing....

That is very common. All you need is a hose that fits well. It is not causing your dead cylinders problem.

Cylinders 2 & 3 are fired by the same coil, so the coil may be bad or there could be a bad connection to it, or the secondary wires may be cracked and broken.

+1
I just capped them. check for leaky carb boots, good compression and make sure your valves are properly adjusted.

Could I just clamp the hose, it's leaking badly, or get a better fitting hose? I'm assuming this would cause some running issues pulling vacuum... no?

That hose looks short & there is no hose clamps to keep it from leaking
if your spark plug wires are long enough, you can try switching the wires from 2 & 3, with 1 & 4, & see if the problem moves to 1 & 4, but first get a proper size hose & clamps for the reed valves on the valve cover

I'd tack some beer can material or aluminum sheet, trace it out, cut it and put them under the caps for good measure.

Coke if you'd like. I have some aluminum stock that is used for roofing repair. I also have heavier gauge sheet stock. You can get some at HD, Lowes etc.
