Removing cylinders was created by Lazyman06
Been trying to tear down the engine and I've got it down to the cylinders but I can't get it to budge an inch. Any suggestions?

I don't know about your model, but on the 550 there is a small slot cut into the side of the engine where you can pry the cylinders up with a screwdriver or something

Don't bop the fins but you can get it loose and pry it up enough to get them off.

I would spray plenty of release oil down the studs and around the gasket areas, light tap with a rubber mallet - be real careful here as the lower fins can break off so make your mallet hits contact several fins at once. There are cut outs in the base gasket for leverage points, use these only.

If the block is stuck you can cut two 1 inch plastic tubes or wood and put them in the bores, fasten cylinder head to block with the 5 m6 studs and turn the motor with a big lever to pull the block off. If that doesn't do it then removing or cutting through the 12 main studs is the next step.

Best solution I came up with years ago to more easily remove the cylinder block on my Z1s and KZs is to make a steel bar that's thick (maybe 3/4" thick) and long enough to span the width of the cylinder block generously (so that you have room to use a mallet without hitting the block). It should be wide, like 3"-4" too. Drill 2 holes that line up with the two 6mm holes at the ends of the top sides of the block.

Use heavy duty bolts and bolt the bar onto the cylinder block securely. Use a heavy duty rubber or plastic mallet evenly and the block will come. :)
