Cam chain w/ master link??

Hi! I'm kinda new to motorcycles but I am rebuilding my grandpa's 77-79 KZ750 twin with his help. We want to replace the cam chain because it is stretched and worn and he says it should be replaced at this point. We do not however want to split the case if we don't have to. We already have most of everything broken down and cleaned and replaced but we can't get it put back together unless we get that chain.

I haven't had any luck on my own finding a chain with a master link.

Does anyone know where I can find one? Is there another way to replace it with an endless chain that doesn't involve splitting the case?
Thanks!

If it's that worn, the tranny should be checked too. The new cam chains with the semi press fit links should do at least as discussed here.

I have never seen a split link cam chain for a 750 twin. Surprised the chain is worn out. I have over 80k miles on my 750 twin and the chain is still good.

Bounty, are they Hy Vo chains? If so, I don't think there are master links for it.

Looks like a basic bicycle chain. I have seen some aftermarket chains with links you can "rivet in" but haven't seen one specifically for a 750 twin. maybe there is some generic cam chain out there that would work?

I got my (heavy duty) chain from Z1. Didn't look like a heavy duty one, it looked stock. They did offer one with a master link. I didn't like that idea and had to deal with second gear so I split the cases. I also changed the main shift fork to a KZ 1000 one. It is beefier than the Z1's.

Thanks for the reply. Any chance that you know where I can find one of these semi-press chains?

I also checked the ware and it was at 162+mm so right at the service limit. My grandpa says he stopped driving the bike when the timing got retarded and there was some chain slap. Believes it was coming from the cam chain, and that makes sense if it was at its service limit.

Z1 enterprises sells the split cam chains for the 650's. I don't know haw long the one for the 750 is. The only thing available may be new old stock and they are single piece.

Are you sure its stretched, it not unusual for the chain tensioner, or one of the roller guides to break. Pull the valve cover and see if you can look down and verify nothing is broken.

If it's a 750 twin, I think the head is taller. Some shops buy in bulk. That might be a option.
