Outside of Chicago I saw 93 without ethanol but it was expensive. In Wisconsin we get 91 without ethanol almost a dollar cheaper. I wonder if the 93 vs 91 would be worth it.

The ratings are different than when these bikes were made.

Also what is the best for proformance, rich with hotter plug or middle of the road or lean? Watched drag racing and seemed like fuel was coming out of the exhaust as flames!

Lean is mean. I use to fire up Bossie for my granddaughter before they went home for the night. My daughter asked why flames would come out the exhaust? I told her with these 33 mm Miks, the bike just couldn't burn all that fuel, so it finishes burning as it leaves the pipe. The idea is to make ponies with what you have, not waste what's left over as it leaves. Keep that in mind as you jet.

Too rich isn't good; too lean can create too much heat. Shoot for the middle. This gentleman cannot figure out why his bike gets poor fuel economy. Ed

One thing I've always wondered is how much fuel is left in the line at the pump, So if your filling up the bike with premium how much of the 87 octane are getting before the 91 starts flowing? Or does the line drain back after you fill? I used to fill up where they had separate pumps for the different grades, they renovated and now the same pump dispenses all the grades.

Anyone ever work at a gas station?

If I knew what I was doing all the time life wouldn't be any fun.

It doesn't matter to a squid like him. Once he knows what road rash and broken ankles feel like (not to mention pipe burns) :pinch: , he'll start to get it.
Ed's right, that's what the chart is for. I have been jetting down. Bigger isn't always better. B)

If anyone is close to east Tennessee, I know several stations with reg 87 non ethanol, up to premium non ethanol....

Weigles 87 non ethanol seems to do the best in my car....

I also run it in everything that I own that uses gas....

I did a mileage comparison between it and the premium 93 non ethanol, and it wasn't worth the cost difference.... (In my Honda)

Some time ago I read an article about this. As I recall, they measured a quart or so depending on the brand of pump.

From a thread at Kawasakimotorcycle.org

The American Petroleum Institute says fuel remaining in a hose is typically about 1/3 gallon.

I use this site to find ethanol-free gas.

pure-gas.org/

Yes, it is always premium that is ethanol-free. You will find only a few stations with a separate hose for ethanol-free. If you remove the pump handle from the cradle and pull the trigger before you select the grade gravity will drain a significant part of the hose. I have seen people just pour it on the ground. So much for the environment.

You can't do that here. What does happen is the overflow fuel that is left in the boot, comes out all over the tank if you don't drain it. That means the handle is defective and it happens all too much.
