The same thing was true on my bike. Replaced the tach. drive shortly after replacing the speedometer drive and it also settled right down. Both drives were failing around 35000 - 40000 miles. Both the tach. and speedo. are rock steady now. Hope this works for you. I guess this means that one might want to keep spare drives for old age!!

That is interesting.... both of my drives are right at 37,000 miles... and pulse like that too.
