Torque specs for oil pan was created by Racewayelko
So I was reading through my clymer manuel while doing my pan gasket on a 4 cyl 1982 kz750 and saw that I am supposed to torque the pan bolts to 90 ft lbs. Does this seem high to anybody else? I don't want to strip out the threads. Also I am using rtv copper so would that effect how much I torque it. Also small rant on cv34's The small o ring on the plastic plugs are $10 from the dealer.. Why so much for something smaller than my pinky finger.

Keep it rubber side down everyone :)

Probably 87 in-lbs --- That's INCH-pounds. Not foot-pounds.

Here's a link to another service manual.

Scroll down to the Bible, and download the manual.
Check out page 35 and also page 77.

Good Fortune! :)

As for the O rings, why does a dog lick himself?
The O rings are metric, hard to find.

I wish I knew what the size was. Z1 has Keihin gaskets for super cheap (under a dollar per one) but I don't know the size Oh well, will have to cough up the cash for them I guess

Time is money. You could try the auto parts stores. They have a box of different sizes. Sometimes they're too fat. Heavy equipment hose repair places carry O rings too.

Unless you have a small tourque wrench that is calibrated I'd just do it by feel. A lot of big 3/8 long wrenches are for cars and on low settings can be a lot out.

1980 Gpz550 D1, 1981 GPz550 D1. 1982 GPz750R1. 1983 z1000R R2. all four aces

the next question is do I trust my 1/4 torque wrench (in-lbs) from harbor freight with these bolts? I think I will just go somewhat snug with a normal ratchet

If you have a 1/4 wrench, use it. Can break a bolt, strip or pull threads out with a 3/8's.
