79 KZ1000 LTD Delkevic downpipes?

Hey everyone,

Haven't been on in a while, but I have a 79 kz1000 ltd and everything is stock on it but my friend has like a 75 z1 900 and he recently went on eBay and bought those delkevic down pipes... I was wondering if anyone has them on the kz1000, just the downpipes and no exhaust tip? Could you post a sound clip? I got the stock exhaust on it and I want it to be loud, so I was gonna put the downpipes on it.
Thanks

I love mine. You can't beat the price and quality. I have lots of pics in my build thread here:

www.kzrider.com/forum/11-projects/539557...200r-build?start=580

I think the header system would fit your 1000LTD. I don't like the look of their mufflers, so I used their header and did my own can and mount.

That's sweet, did you start it up before you made your own muffler?? Was it pretty loud? Lol it seems it would be because of how big that exhaust is, almost like a straight pipe. Wonder how much more power I'd get with that on compared to the stock exhaust?

Nope the bike is not in a running condition, so I have not heard it. I am expecting quite a bit of noise one it is running.

I have ridden a '76 I tuned for a buddy that had some 70's aftermarket exhaust that was a 4 into 2 with turn downs that dumped right under your feet. Even though the turn down sections were like glass packs, it was way too loud, and I even like loud. I imagine the straight header only will be uncomfortable to rise even with ear plugs.

So it's probably really really loud just the way the exhaust is when you put it on? Louder that a V&H and kerker do you think? Looks like it would probably keep up with the noise of a victory or harley lol

You wouldn't gain power, you'd LOOSE power without a can for back pressure

I remember there was an old article someone posted on here where motorcyclist magazine did a test to see if there were power gains to be had with a 4>1 and they found you actually loose a little bit of power, but because the stock pipes are so heavy that it evens out with the weight savings. Unless there is motor work done pods and pipe is really for looks only.

That's weird though because with my car, the exhaust that is on it weighs 100 pounds and if you straight pipe it, it produces 20 more horsepower so you would think with the down pipes, the engine would breathe better and would create more power?
