Does anyone know where I can find a complete list of O rings and seals for the 77 KZ1000 engine ?

I am ready to put this motor back together and I don't need any 11th hour surprises.

Thanks,

JD

Not a list exactly, but if you check out the parts diagrams on Kawasaki.com you should be able to compile a list. Ed

There aren't too many. Seals on the countershaft, the right end of the crank behind the centrifigal advancer, 3 on the shifter shaft, I think one on the kicker or maybe thats an O ring. There is an O ring between the case haves that seals the main oil passage . Z-1 sells a seal kit that covers all the seals. The O rings are seperate part#s. I may have forgot something, it's been 3 years since I put my engine together. Check the service manual and parts diagrams.

If you have the oil pipe off from the top case [which you should so you can really clean out the galley] get 2 o rings for that as well.

Z1E probably has everything you need right on the shelf.

Thanks guys, not including the 2 that you get with a Fram oil filter I count 15 O rings.
I'm going to go back over everything from the diagrams off of Kawasaki.com site but I think that is the count, I'll post an itemized list with Kaw's PO numbers soon hopefully.

Got the box from Z1 today with all the seals today along with a bunch of other stuff.

I plan on calling the local Kaw shop for the rings using their numbers , I did a lot of running around trying to get the right O rings for the 650 ,
I want to do this right the first time

There is actually 4 rings for the pipe with 3 different sizes

Here's the list as per Kawasaki.com
The only one not available is the one on the starter motor shaft.
I ordered them through the local Kaw shop for $ 55.87 tax included

They are good on 77-78 A1, A2, A2A

Some bizarre advice I got from the young guy at the parts counter at the local Kawi stealership: for O rings, think plumbing supply. The places that supply O rings for plumbing use have every O ring size on earth in every material.

When I rebuilt my engine, the Athena gaskets were bad and some failed almost immediately (including the cylinder base gasket) so I ended up having to tear it apart again and I needed some new O rings to put it back together.

The kawi dealer wanted about $12 EACH for O rings (any size) and that was when the parts guy took pity on me and told me to go to a plumbing supply place. I found a local warehouse that supplied O rings and went there and they had every size I needed in VITON material. I told the guy why I needed them and he just handed them to me and wrote 'customer sample" on the bill sheet (no charge). That probably saved me at least $00 compared to what I would have had to pay the stealership.

I'll wager it's the pipe that goes between the cylinder and head with a restrictor orifice that feeds oil up to the camshafts. Those pipes have two O rings on them and are a bugger to get out of the cylinder. I had to knock mine out with a wooden dowel. mandatory to change those O rings.
