Hi,
Did a few miles on my kz 750 b (1976), stopped... restarted 10 mn later, put the first gear on, released the clutch and then :woohoo:
nothing
Tried again with the other gears, and then   :woohoo:
nothing
The bike stays still as if I were in neutral.
I can hear the gears shift and no weird noises, my clutch lever seems normal and the bike was just fine 10 mn before.

Any idea what it could be? I'm lost and wouldn't be confident to open the gearbox :S
Thanks
Chris

Check the counter sprocket (the sprocket at the front end of the drive chain) to make sure the nut didn't come loose and let it slip off the spline. Ed

The nut came off your counter-shaft sprocket. Pull the side cover and see if it is still there. It may have fallen out on the highway. It happens to new riders a lot.

Yep, sprocket nut. Had this happen to me a couple years ago as I was racing my buddy. It scared the heck out of me! I thought I'd broke something in the transmission. Check and make sure you have the lock washer under the nut. It has a tab that goes into a hole in the sprocket. Then, after you tighten the nut you bend the washer over the nut. This will stop it from coming loose. Z1enterprises has the lock washer if yours is missing.

Thanks for the tip...
I'm a bit confused as to which washer I need though, I found 2 on Z1 enterprises:
This one
www.z1enterprises.com/ItemDetails.aspx?i...line&item=92200-1065

and that one
www.z1enterprises.com/ListItems.aspx?keywords=ZLF024-044

Not sure which one is the right one as they both mention KZ 750 B

Any idea?
Many Thanks for your help ;)

Damn dude, I have read some horror stories about that happening to people at speed ! (Ya got any lottery numbers you would care to share with me? LOL!) I am dealing with this very thing right now, in a slightly different way...the lock washer with the tab sticking up (#zlf 024-044) will work with factory gears that have an extra hole in the face to receive tab. Said tab keeps washer in place over shaft/on gear....when sprocket nut is torqued, you bend a couple areas up and against the side of the sprocket nut. My new 530 conversion sprocket (aftermarket) does not have the extra hole, so I am on the hunt for the one that z1e is out of stock on, #92200-1065 (with the spline reliefs on the inside ring)... that one just slides over gear on the shaft, lockiing with the shaft's splines, and you bend it up after it's nut is torqued...same basic thing...so if you are running oem sprockets, either will work fine...If, like me, you went aftermarket, I guess we are both searching...I'll probably check with my local Kaw shop first...probably still available....Just don't use red loctite instead ! 650 Ed says that while it will hold fine, you'll melt/ruin your seals, heating stuff up the next time you needed to get the sprocket off. Take care of your counter sprocket, you'll miss it when it's gone! LOL!

Sprocket washer

Another Sprocket washer

Another Sprocket washer

And a couple more just on the first page of a Google search for the part number.

There is not enough room under the sprocket cover on a 750 twin for the sprocket to slide off the shaft. So it just sits there spinning on the threads at the end of the output shaft, messing it up.

I was close enough that I coasted into the driveway. :)

Don't use Partzilla they SUCK!!! All they do is order it from Kawasaki then send it to you once they get it. Looooong wait times crappy customer service.

Wow! I have had outstanding service from Partzilla, and I have ordered parts from them on several different occasions . I am very surprised that you had a bad experience with them. I highly recommend them, Z1E, and ronayers.com. I believe you will find that most parts dealers must order most if not all genuine parts from Kawasaki and then ship them to the end customer. Some local shops or online dealers may routinely stock certain parts, but there's no way any dealer can afford to keep an inventory on hand of every part for every model bike in hopes that someone will order the part. That would be economic suicide. Ed

I've never ordered through partszilla but I have had great experiences with Z1E and ronayers.com. I know that there are a couple of places that I've had bad experiences with that others have had great service so I guess it's just the luck of the draw.
